Luxury Fence and Driveway Lighting on Sumas Way in Abbotsford
This landscape lighting project in Abbotsford’s Sumas Way neighbourhood focused on improving nighttime visibility while highlighting the natural character of the property. The goal was to create a welcoming approach to the home while ensuring the long driveway and surrounding landscape felt safe, refined, and visually balanced after dark.
Driveway Illumination
To properly light the wide driveway, we used a combination of overhead downlighting and carefully positioned uplighting at the base of the mature trees. The downlighting provides even, glare free illumination across the driving surface, making entry and exit safer at night. By mounting fixtures high in the trees, the light gently washes the driveway below and mimics natural moonlight rather than harsh flood lighting.
Tree and Landscape Accents
The large trees lining the driveway were uplighted from their bases to add vertical interest and depth to the property. This technique draws the eye upward, emphasizing the height and structure of the trees while creating a dramatic but natural look. The lighting also helps visually define the property boundary and adds a sense of scale as you approach the home.
Fence Post and Entry Feature Lighting
Along the front fence line, fence post lighting was installed to highlight the architectural curves and rhythm of the wall. These fixtures provide subtle accent lighting that enhances the design of the fence while also improving visibility along the roadway edge.
At the pedestrian entry, lighting was used to softly frame the walkway and entry feature, guiding visitors toward the home and reinforcing a clear, intuitive path at night. The result is an entry that feels inviting, calm, and intentionally designed rather than overly bright.
A Balanced and Functional Result
This project demonstrates how thoughtful landscape lighting can transform a property without overpowering it. By combining functional driveway lighting with architectural and natural accents, the home now feels safer, more welcoming, and visually striking after dark while still respecting the surrounding landscape.
